On June 8 and 9, 2021, the Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with Luxinnovation, Baden-Württemberg International and the partners of the Enterprise Europe Network, organized a digital seminar. Let’s look back at this cross-border event.
e-Mission to Baden-Württemberg: GET2Know Your Neighbours
The program of the e-Mission was dedicated to the topic of digital innovation in both countries. Special emphasis was placed on the areas of cybersecurity, industry 4.0 and future mobility. Under the banner “GET2Know Your Neighbours”, companies from Luxembourg and Baden-Württemberg had the opportunity to get to know the economic advantages of the other region even better, to discover new market opportunities, to take part in round table discussions and to be active in a pitching session.
In addition to the thematic sessions in the morning, participants also had the opportunity to exchange ideas with leading companies and innovative start-ups from both regions in online B2B meetings.
Day 1 / Baden-Württemberg and Luxembourg: Digital Innovation
In an exchange with Camille Ney, journalist and moderator of the two-day event, Dr. Frauke Goll, head of the unit “Innovation, Strategy, Transfer” at the Research Center for Information Technology and head of the Digital Innovation Center Karlsruhe, gave an overview of the most important initiatives in the field of digital innovation in Baden-Württemberg. Overlaps with Luxembourg projects were apparent.
Lisa Petit, project manager for international networking and startups at the Industry 4.0 Alliance Baden-Württemberg, then gave an overview of the challenges and support possibilities for companies on the path to digital transformation. Best-practice examples illustrated innovative business concepts that succeed through the intelligent networking of production and value creation processes.
On the Luxembourg side, David Foy, Head of International Business Development – Digital Economy at Luxinnovation, illustrated the Grand Duchy’s evolution towards a data-driven economy. The topic was further explored by Steve Clement, Security Engineer at the Computer Incident Response Center Luxembourg, who presented the national cybersecurity ecosystem as an important pillar of the data economy.
Day 2 / Digital innovation for the mobility of the future
The second day started with a moderated exchange on the future of mobility, during which experts from both regions gave an overview of their respective locations as well as current developments in the sector.
Stefan Büchele, Head of International Cooperation at the national agency for new mobility solutions e-mobil BW and Anthony Auert, Head of the AutoMobility Cluster at Luxinnovation in Luxembourg, also emphasized in their presentations the necessity and potential of cooperation between the two regions.
In this context, Joost Ortjens, representative of the Meta-Cluster Autoregion e.V., emphasized the importance for Luxembourg of close cooperation in the Greater Region and beyond. International cooperation was then illustrated by Professor Raphaël Frank from the Interdisciplinary Center for Security, Reliability and Trust (SnT) with the presentation of concrete cross-border research and development projects.
Finally, Dr. Clemens Ackermann, research coordinator at the Arena 2036 research campus, gave an exciting overview of the Stuttgart Innovation Platform for Future Mobility and Production, where research and industry work directly together.
